ANN ARBOR—The University of Michigan’s research vessel Laurentian will be open for public tours 2-8 p.m. on Aug. 4 and 5 in Grand Haven.

The Laurentian, operated by the U-M Center for Great Lakes and Aquatic Sciences (CGLAS), is holding the open house as part of Grand Haven’s Coast Guard Festival.

Visitors may tour the working spaces of the 80-foot steel-hulled vessel and inspect the specialized sampling equipment. Also available will be displays depicting research into various Great Lakes problems. CGLAS scientists and staff will be available to guide tours and answer questions.

The Laurentian will be docked at Government Pier, near the Coast Guard Station, throughout the Festival, which also features an 11 a.m. parade on Aug. 5, and fireworks at sunset.
