ANN ARBOR—Two University of Michigan programs received Council for Advancement and Support of Education Circle Of Excellence awards. The Michigan Road Scholars program earned a gold medal in the special events category, and the U-M Life Sciences Institute’s Web site (http://lifesciences.umich.edu) received a silver medal award in the Web site category.

Michigan Road Scholars is a week-long bus tour taking its fourth annual tour this May. It gives U-M professors and administrators an up-close view of the state of Michigan’s distinctive business, cultural and educational systems, and exposes them to health and social issues facing state residents. Tour participants are invited to apply for seed money for research projects that stem from their experiences on the tour.

Michigan Road Scholars is run by the State Outreach Office in the Office of the Vice President for Government Relations, with oversight support from Earl Lewis, dean of the Rackham School of Graduate Studies, and a faculty advisory committee.

The Life Sciences Institute is part of the U-M’s commitment to 21st century leadership in biomedical and life sciences research. It includes a $546 million campus-wide investment in new research facilities, interdisciplinary programs and enhanced curriculum.

The award-winning Life Sciences Institute Web site includes information about the program, announcements about research grants and upcoming events, updated news links on recent scientific developments, and other related information.

The Council for Advancement and Support of Education is a professional organization dedicated to the advancement of professionals who work in alumni relations, communications, and development. Its membership includes more than 3,000 colleges, universities, and independent elementary and secondary schools in the United States, Canada, Mexico, and 42 other countries.
