Zell-Lurie Institute to sponsor symposium on entrepreneurship

ANN ARBOR—Donna Dubinsky, CEO and co-founder of Handspring Inc., and Hal Davis, former CEO and co-founder of BlueGill Technologies (acquired in 2000 by CheckFree), will be the keynote speakers at a free, public symposium on entrepreneurship Sept. 14 at the University of Michigan Business School‘s Hale Auditorium.

“Entrepalooza 2001: The Changing Face of Entrepreneurship,” which will run from 7:30 a.m. to 12:45 p.m., will feature Davis at 8:30 and Dubinsky at noon. Davis will discuss the fundamental laws of entrepreneurship that apply in all market climates, while Dubinsky will share the Palm Pilot success story and highlights lessons learned through her 20 years as an entrepreneur.

In addition, two dozen entrepreneurs and others will take part in panel discussions on such topics as transforming an idea into a business, managing the growth of new ventures, venture capital funding, entrepreneurship via acquisition, and entrepreneurship in emerging economies.

The sumposium is sponsored by the U-M Business School’s Samuel Zell and Robert H. Lurie Institute for Entrepreneurial Studies and the student-led Entrepreneur and Venture Capital Club.
