EVENT: “Making Housing More Affordable” is the first in the Poverty Solutions Engagement Series, which tackles a poverty-related topic and connects faculty, students and communities to explore ideas, strategies and potential solutions to some of the most pressing challenges of our time.

J. Arthur Jemison, director of housing and revitalization for the city of Detroit, will deliver a keynote speech. Participants will have an opportunity to attend breakout sessions led by U-M faculty and community members, and contribute ideas to overcoming the challenges of affordable housing.

The interactive sessions include:

  • Housing Affordability in Detroit: Property Tax Exemption as a Poverty Solution
  • Preserving Detroit’s Affordable Housing
  • City of Desire: Inclusive Visions for Detroit
  • Homelessness and Affordable Housing in Washtenaw County
  • Reimagining Supportive Services and Self-Sufficiency in Low-Income Housing
