EVENT: Adam Liptak, U.S. Supreme Court correspondent for the New York Times, will speak on “The Roberts Court and the Constitution: A Reporter’s Reflections.”

A federal law requires that all schools receiving federal funding must recognize the Constitution on Sept. 17, the Constitution’s “birthday” (or during the week before or after if the day falls on a weekend).

Liptak, a lawyer, joined the New York Times news staff in 2002 and began covering the Supreme Court in fall 2008. His column, “Sidebar,” chronicles developments in the law. In 2009, he was a finalist for the Pulitzer Prize in explanatory reporting for his series on ways in which the U.S. legal system differs from those of other developed nations.

Liptak’s work has also appeared in the New Yorker, Vanity Fair, Rolling Stone, Business Week and the American Lawyer. He has written several law review articles as well, generally on First Amendment topics. He also has taught media law at the Columbia University School of Journalism, UCLA Law School and Yale Law School.

A reception will immediately follow his talk, which is free to the public.
