EVENT: Robotics Day showcases the leading autonomous systems and robotics research coming out of the University of Michigan, other Michigan universities and in government and industry in the region.

PLACE: North Campus Research Complex, Building 18, 2800 Plymouth Rd., Ann Arbor

DETAILS: Panels will explore how robots and autonomous tech could transform the supply chain, transportation and health care. Highlights include:

• 9:15 a.m. How autonomous technology will transform Michigan businesses: An address by Matt Smith, program manager of intelligent transportation systems at the Michigan Department of Transportation.
• 11 a.m. Behind the scenes of Amazon’s robotic order fulfillment tech: A talk by Pete Wurman, U-M alumnus and chief technology officer at Kiva Systems, Inc., a wholly owned subsidiary of Amazon.com.
• 1:30 p.m. Robot demonstrations: See research prototypes of machines that walk, fly, swim, roll and slither, designed by students and professors. Several regional high school FIRST Robotics teams will attend, as will industry participants.
• 2:30 p.m. Enabling the paralyzed to control limbs: Cindy Chestek, U-M assistant professor of biomedical engineering, will discuss work on brain-machine interfaces that aim to enable paralyzed people to control prosthetic limbs.
