U-M, Washtenaw College offer rewards in equipment theft

ANN ARBOR, Mich.–The University of Michigan and Washtenaw Community College are offering rewards for information leading to the recovery of recently stolen LCD projectors and the arrest and conviction of individuals responsible for the thefts.

Up to $10,000 is being offered by the two institutions for information regarding the LCD projector thefts. More than 25 projectors valued at more than $130,000 have been stolen from the two schools since March.

"These are similar crimes of a similar nature at the two schools," said Bill Bess, director of U-M's Department of Public Safety. "Though we don't have specific evidence, we are working on the premise that these crimes may have been committed by the same person or group of people as the crimes are so similar.

"We are working closely together with WCC and other area law enforcement agencies to solve these crimes."

Anyone with information about these incidents is asked to call U-M DPS at (734) 763-1131, or the U-M's anonymous tip line at (800) 863-1355, or the WCC tip line at (734) 677-5343, or the Washtenaw County Sheriff's confidential tip line at (734) 973-7711.
